Now You Sea Me ... Not In The Salon

There are a few things that I find relaxing. One of them is getting my hands pampered and massaged in a salon while reading some fashion magazines along with a Starbucks drink. However, I find myself opting out of that experience more and more because I haven't been fully satisfied with the end result of how my mani comes out. There's nothing worse than sitting for an hour or so at a salon, {not to mention the expense} only to come out disappointed.  Lately, I've been doing my own manicures which are much more salon worthy looking - best yet, it only takes me 30 minutes tops -from start to finish.

My steps consist of: removing old nail polish, filing, buffing
and shaping my nails down to a very short length.

The years of keeping my nails super long have gone by many moons ago lol. I remember, my nails used to be so long, I used to have a pinkie nail ring {remember that trend?}. *Depending on the day, if I have time and I'm in a full pampering mood, I soak my hands, clip my cuticles and the whole shabang!

Over the years I've developed somewhat of a steady hand applying the polish without getting it all over my cuticles and hands, but you can always use a polish remover pen
to clean up any smudges.

 I added a little bit of glitter on the thumbs and the ring fingers
as a twist to spice things up.

French Bistro

While in Vegas and being the foodies that we are, the hubby and I have scoured, scoped out and scrutinized dozens of restaurants in this town, but especially the ones off the strip since I cannot STAND the smoke filled air of casinos! It's like an immediate suffocation when I enter into them, especially the older ones that don't have great ventilation.

In an effort to stay away from them, we've been able to discover some favorite under-the-radar gems. One of them is Bernard's Bistro in Lake Las Vegas Henderson. This quaint, fun, classy, smoke-free, bistro offers great venetian surroundings {nope, I'm not talking the Venetian hotel. I'm talking Lake Las Vegas... home to Celine Dion}. The french native chef/owner comes out to greet everyone at the restaurant which, to me, makes a restaurant appealing and successful. Being able to make each diner feel welcome and important is an immediate draw to people and even if the food stinks, they will still come as it builds loyalty and a comradery.

This is the turkey and brie cheese Tour De France open faced sandwich
which consists of french baguette w. roasted bell pepper, avocado, flavor spread and petite salad

I love the merging of Frank Sinatra {and members of the rat pack} in a french bistro - essentially still maintaining the music history of Las Vegas.

I love the whimsy of the giant hand decor, but also the pop of color in that display brings that counter to life and gives it energy.

What I really love too is the indoor/outdoor seating option with lake views

The Power of A Hug...

It has been proven that showing affection strengthens growth and positive development in people. We all need physical contact to feel good, and one of the most important ways of physical contact between two people is hugging.

Who does not need cuddles in this society that is becoming ever colder, more competitive, that compels us to be more individualistic, more personal-goal oriented...?

When we hug, we receive an energy feedback. We bring life to our senses and reaffirm the trust in our senses. Sometimes we CANNOT find the right words to express how we feel, and then hugs are the best way to say it.

We need four hugs a day to survive, eight to preserve ourselves, and twelve to grow. A hug makes you feel good. The skin is the biggest organ we have and it needs a lot of love. A hug can cover an extensive part of the skin and provides the massage you need. It is also a way to communicate. It can convey messages for which you have no words. We can always resort to the universal language of hugs.

The Power of Hugs
Hugging achieves many things that you might never have imagined. For example:

It feels good
It dissolves solitude
It defeats fear
It opens the door to sensations
It improves self-esteem {wow, he or she wants to hug me!}
It encourages altruism {I can't believe it, but I want to hug that person}
It delays aging {those who hug age more slowly}
It helps reduce appetite {we eat less when we are nourished with hugs and when our arms are wrapped around others}

More benefits from hugs:
It is environmentally friendly {it does not damage the environment}
It preserves energy
It is portable and requires no additional machinery
It does not require a special place to do it {an adequate place to hug}
In any place such as a conference room, a football field etc...
It makes happy days even happier
It gives us a sense of belonging
It fills the void in our lives
It is still effective even after the hugging has finished
It strengthens and increases our ability to share
It harmonizes the hearts of friends
Hugging creates some form of addiction to tenderness, to altruism, to happiness...

Just as laughter, it is highly contagious! Whatever your hug may be, let it always come from the heart, not from the mind.
Come up with new ways of hugging.
Become a full-time "hug therapist."
Be always ready to offer a hug to someone.
A hug does and says very much.

Hug your friend, your loved one, your kids, your parents, your pet...

Here's my hug to you!

Prom Dresses

From top left to right:
8. This Sassy Orange Strapless Cocktail Dress {in the color of the year sure is a show stopper - So Cinderella!} $118
10. Halter Ruffled Evening Dress {very red carpet style} $99

For the past month or so, I've noticed a lot of mother-and-daughter pairs perusing many gown shops looking for that perfect prom dress. For so many young ladies in high school this is a once-in-a-lifetime event and the hunt for just the right dress can be a challenge.

I must say, I'm grateful I didn't deal with that for I never attended any school dances or went to my prom. I hated my school so much that I went to summer school just to rack up the credits I needed so I could graduate early. When everyone was attending their prom, I was already in my first year of college.

For those of you that are attending your senior prom-remember, you have been waiting for this special moment for such a long time.  This is no time to go safe by settling with just an ordinary LBD {little black dress}.  That just will not do;) The perfect prom dress should be timeless and classic... definitely a dress that dazzles in pictures for years to come. It's your time to feel like a princess and look glamorous.

~Happy shopping ya'll~

Utah Road Trip

For the past few years, we have been residing in Henderson NV due to business.  Occasionally we have taken a few road trips to St. George, Utah for seminars/conventions and this past weekend we took a leisurely 120-mile drive in the blazing dry heat of Utah {yes, it's already 97 degrees in the middle of April, that 97 feels like over a 100!} for one last time, as we soon will be going home to the big apple.

However, every time we make that road trip we just get amazed at what we see, and for those of you who haven't been there yet are some pictures of the amazingly steep jagged rocky mountains. As we drive alongside these majestic mountains, we often look over the edge which is 5,000{+} feet above sea level and think 'let's stay far far away from the edge of the road, and pray we don't break down because there's no phone reception as it can be a very treacherous area to be stranded in'. The mountain lions are plump for a reason..;)

Can you believe someone has a house there? I mean there's nothing else in sight for MILES! Talk about adventurous...

Happy Monday!

The Greek word'a is translated "hospitality", which is made up of two root words meaning "love" and "stranger." Thus, hospitality essentially means "love of strangers." However, this is not just a formality or a point of courtesy. It involves one's feelings and affections. Hence, hospitality is an expression of genuine fondness, affection, and friendship extended to complete strangers. It's certainly something that I've learned at a very young age, and one thing that I actually derive enjoyment from is extending hospitality or friendliness to others that I don't know.  Sometimes it's by including someone new in my circle or inviting them over for a meal.

As I've been away from home living in a foreign city temporarily where there are no roots or friends that are like family doesn't keep me from extending friendship to others by inviting them to go out to eat, but I usually prefer to make a hand-made meal.  I personally feel it really shows a deep affection and I love to cook so it's an enjoyment to prepare a meal for others.

This time I went the rustic way frosting these cupcakes instead of using the piping bag.

However, this night, we had some new friends stop by our condo for a visit, and I whipped up one of my favorite desserts EVER ~ CUPCAKES! I also prepared some other quick snacks. I'll put up the recipe to these in another post. It's late and my brain juice has run out. I say all of this to stress the importance of taking the initiative to be friendly. In most cases the effort is met with a pleasant response and such moments can be enjoyable especially if you're in a place where there's a lack of neighborliness.

~Enjoy your weekend~

As a lover of fashion {and home} accessories, I truly feel that jewelry is the backbone of any wardrobe. Accessories take a look from simple to fabulous! Quality gems or costume jewelry will do the job. It's all up to your budget. Which leads to this post of some of the jewelry pieces in my wardrobe.
